I think we can all agree that holidays are becoming over-the-top commercialized and filled with "stuff". The meanings behind the celebrations are QUICKLY being forgotten and/or confused. My goal is to simplify holidays and bring our focus to teaching our kids about Christ.
I love the fun & happiness that Easter brings-- but I want my kids to know more about Christ than the Easter bunny. Teaching my kids about who Christ is and why He's important is NEVER going to conveniently happen. It's going to require intentional conversations and teaching. Hopefully filling this Easter season with Christ-centered activities and a basket full of ways to learn more about Christ will fill our home with the Spirit to direct those intentional conversations. So here we go!
Easter Activities:
• Create a “Jesus Basket” and fill it with eggs that are filled with little symbols of the Easter story -- Open one egg per day (advent calendar style) leading up to Easter morning OR open them all and tell the story for an FHE
*I couldn't decide on one favorite ... so I linked a pinterest page with tons of ideas!
• “The Holy Week” – A Guide for Celebrating Easter
*This book is LOADED with Christ centered ideas to do with your kiddos all weeks long*
• Make “Tomb” rolls and/or cookies
*there are TONS of recipes out there-- here's an idea!
Easter Baskets:
• Jesus Sandals -- this is a GREAT idea to open the doorway to conversations about what it means to "walk in His footsteps"
• Scripture Lullabies CDs – “Hidden in my Heart”
• Subscription to “The Living Scriptures” App
• Mini Children's Songbook
*My kids each have their own pocket-size primary songbook and they LOVE them. They love to find songs for us to sing together at the piano and they also love looking through them during sacrament meeting.*
• Christus LED Night Light – this website is so cool. Do some searching! They have light up Christus, quotes, temples, and more!
• Books that teach clearly & beautifully about Jesus – I LOVE Palm & Fig books
*we read these frequently at bedtime and during the Sacrament at church*
• Temple Building Playdough Set
• “Drawing Jesus” books
• Book of Mormon Aqua Brush books
